JUCUAPA ABAJO

The river crossing over the Rio Jucuapa serves at least three communities deep in the beautiful Cerro El Jobo mountains, a remote region of the municipality of Matagalpa. The Rio Jucuapa swells tremendously during the rainy season, and because of the relatively flat terrain, the locals were forced to wade through waist deep water or detour over the mountain range, to attend to every day errands. A suspension bridge that was built at this site with the help of a team of volunteers from Flatiron Construction and Turner Construction allowed the residents to at least cross the main river without fear of being swept away and drowning.
