LINDA LIBUYU
“I was walking back from market with my remaining wares. On my way I had to cross the Maramba stream to get home. It’s rainy season and the stream floods. Sometimes we have to wait for hours. Other times we just walk around. This time the waters were not too high so I felt I could cross. A child on the other side got to the small bridge before me and saw it first. I saw him running away. Crocodile, crocodile he was screaming. I looked down and there it was, very big, bigger than I’d seen before, at least 3m. And he was waiting under the bridge – hunting humans. If the child had not seen him my baby and I would have been lunch, and dinner. The local men scared him away with rocks and noise, but now I’m scared to cross.” A bridge at Linda-Libuyu saved lives.
