Kamunjoma Suspended Bridge Project Slide Show Bridge Sponsors: Crosby Group & the Rotary Club of Seattle Partners: Fashion Phiri, MP Bridge Designers and Construction Coordination: Zoe Paccian Trainees: Dedication: Memorial: Volunteers: River Name: Nyamusesa River Bridge Name: Kamunjoma Bridge Span: 65 meters Pedestrian Footbridge Type: Suspended Footbridge Community Name: Mangango Population served by bridge: More than 1000 people will use this crossing to access the Chaka health post, there primary school and the market. Expected Traffic: Estimated daily traffic of 250 people. Bridge Completion Date: Bridge story: This mostly tribal community is entirely reliant on subsistence farming. The community is split in 2 by the Nyamusesa river, has a health post which more than half the community cannot reach during the rainy season. The river, on the border with Mozambique is incredibly remote and as such, has been forgotten by many international organizations and development agencies. The Lutwazi Middle School of Chombe Village on one side of the river is the largest school in the area and is only accessible year round to a small fraction of its students. During the rainy season, the distance from the main village to school increases from 3 km to 20 km without another available crossing stranding an estimated 7,000 people. The Nsenga tribe is the most represented tribe in and around the Kamunjoma Village. Click on the Google Earth™ logo-Project link below to see a satellite view of the bridge site.
