Boquire Suspended Pedestrian Footbridge Project Slide Show Partners: Arizona State University (ASU) Chapter of Bridges To Prosperity, Municipalidad de Liure, Comunidad de Bocuire, AeA Bridge Name: Puente Fuego Pedestrian Footbridge Type: Suspended Bridge Span: 35 meters Bridge Story: This past year, a team of aspiring ASU students, the organization Ayuda en Accion, and the local municipalities, took on the challenge of designing and building a bridge in the country of Honduras, specifically, in the Southern region approximately two hours from Choluteca. ASU Bridges To Prosperity traveled on two occasions to the rural town of Bocuire, to complete the construction of a 40-meter footbridge. This bridge, baptized 'Puente Fuego' (or Fire Bridge, named for the fires used to crack rock during its construction) by the locals, now serves as an essential lifeline connecting the isolated town of Bocuire to major roads and cities such as the close town of Liure. One example of improvement that the bridge has introduced to the area is: the children who live in Bocuire but attend school in Liure now have a safer, easier, and much shorter route to school as opposed to the previously taken rocky, dangerous, and time consuming course.
