San Lucas Calvario Suspended Pedestrian Footbridge Project Slide Show Community Name: San Lucas and San Antonio Bridge Sponsor: Boulder Valley RC, Heco Slings Partners: Arizona State University Trainees and Volunteers: Candice Hein, Larry Sweet, and Allen Rand River Name: Rio Calvario Bridge Name: San Lucas Bridge Span: 28 meters Pedestrian Footbridge Type: Suspended Cable Population Served by Bridge: 500 people Bridge Story: San Lucas Calvario is a picturesque community just outside of the town of Uspantán, nestled in the steep valley of the Río Calvario. Though small, it is a bustling community with many people crossing the river to run errands in town, sell their goods in the market, reach their fields, or go to school or the hospital. Right now the community has no direct access to a river crossing, young and old have to ford the river carrying their goods or books on their heads. A footbridge would make their travel immeasurably easier and contribute to the development of the whole area by increasing the village’s access to town.
